Students at Smith Middle School who read all 10 of the 2015 Troybery books were treated to a special pizza party in the media center on May 8. During the party, students had the honor of meeting and talking via Skype to author Dianne K. Salerni, whose book The Eighth Day won 1st runner-up in the Troybery ceremony! Ms. Salerni talked to students about her writing process, how to get published, and even shared with us what her next book in the series will be about. Many students were able to ask her questions using a webcam provided by the school district. When students left, they received a prize from Mrs. Chatel and from the author! Over 50 students at Smith read all 10 books. There are not many people who can say they have read 10 books in a year, let alone 10 in 4 months! We are very proud of our Smith readers and hope that they will participate again next year or in the Battle of the Books program at the high schools. Many thanks to Mr. Fulcher who provided the pizza and to the parent volunteers who helped to serve the food.
