New for Troybery 2015!This year marks the district's 15th annual Troybery award. To celebrate, we are adding an additional competition: the Troybery Challenge! The middle school media specialists are challenging students to read as many of the former Troybery award nominees and winners as possible. Students can sign up in the media center during the month of October to take this Challenge. When they sign up, they will receive a form to track which Troybery books they have read in the past and during this year. The challenge will run from October 1 to April 1. Parents will have to verify the form by signing at the bottom before the form is turned in at the end. Students who read 3 or more of the 14 former Troybery Award winners will be able to vote for which Troybery winner is the best of all time. One lucky student out of all the middle schools who reads all 14 Troybery Award winners will be chosen to attend the ceremony and announce the "Best of the Best" Troybery Award. Of course, there will be drawings for prizes for those who participate! See the entry form for details. You can find a list of all of the Troybery books here. Please encourage your child to take part in this exciting challenge! Lessons in the Media CenterIt has been a busy two weeks in the Boulan Park media center, as Mrs. Chatel taught all 6th graders lessons on how to use the media center and how to be a good digital citizen (i.e. an upstanding member of our online community). Since the 6th graders are the first ones to be part of the iPad One2World program in Troy, teachers thought that it was incredibly important for students to learn how to be responsible iPad users and how to act when they are using technology. Students used a Visible Thinking strategy called a "Chalk Talk" that enabled them to consider each of the rules of Digital Citizenship. At the end of the lesson, students signed a poster pledging to follow the six rules. Mrs. Chatel also gave students an assignment to use the app Skitch to portray what they had learned from her lesson that day. Upcoming Events
