Book Club Skypes with Author Paul DurhamStudents who attended the October 22 Book Discussion Club meeting were "lucky" to chat with author Paul Durham via Skype about his middle-grade novel The Luck Uglies. The meeting started with students enjoying shamrock-shaped cookies (the symbol of the notorious Luck Uglies) and brainstorming questions to ask. Through their discussion with Mr. Durham, students asked about their favorite characters, about his inspiration for writing, and about the rest of the books in the series. Mr. Durham even gave students a sneak preview of the sequel coming out in March, which no one else has read yet beside the publisher! The Book Discussion Club will meet again on November 24 from 3-4 pm in the Media Center. Students have chosen to read former Troybery nominee Atherton by Patrick Carman. Troybery ChallengeOver 260 Smith students have signed up to take the Troybery Challenge! Students have until October 30 to sign up and get the entry form. Encourage your child to sign up now! Mr. Rexer and Mrs. Casko have been encouraging their 8th grade US History students to read Troyberys that are historical fiction. They brought their classes in to the media center to learn how to write reviews in the library catalog. Take a look at the Troybery room in September....compared to now! The shelves are becoming bare! It is wonderful how so many students have checked out former Troybery books. Upcoming Events
